Sheridan United Church helps support the United Church of Canada’s Mission and Service (M&S) program through healthy voluntary donations from its community of faith. M&S is a unified fund dedicated to transforming lives, inspiring meaning, and building a better world through compassion in action. It supports local, national, and global projects providing food, shelter, medical aid, refugee support, and community development.
Special collections at Sheridan United include Change for Change, typically collected on the second Sunday of the month, and Birthday Money, typically collected on the last Sunday of the month. The Birthday Money Fund is meant to encourage sharing of the generosity associated with birthdays celebrated that month. Each quarter, the money collected via these funds is directed to a selected non-profit organization or project. The Sunday School children are involved in the collection of these funds and have also recently selected some of the applicable projects from the United Church of Canada's Gifts with Vision Catalogue. Disbursements have helped provide gift cards to families in remote fly-in communities of the Far North facing a food crisis, school supplies for kindergarten children in a Beirut refugee camp, groceries that teachers in the rural community of North Dundas can slip into the backpacks of hungry children for the weekend, and support Indspire, a national charity investing in education of First Nation's Inuit and Metis people.
Sheridan United Church is a founding member of The Compass Food Bank and Outreach Centre, which serves southern Mississauga. Each year, Sheridan's budget includes a committed monetary contribution that is sent to The Compass in quarterly payments, in addition to any additional private donations from its community of faith. Baskets are available on an ongoing basis to collect non-perishable food items and toiletries for The Compass. Sheridan occasionally holds specific drives that are typically advertised to the larger community. Sheridan United also helps promote Compass events and campaigns.
Sheridan United Church also has a Benevolent Fund, funded by voluntary donations, that helps it respond to the emergency needs of those in its community of faith and beyond.
